Christmastime

People buying from stores
To give to the poor
Such a holiday, so hollow
Poor getting poorer, trying to follow
Oh, such a wonderful time Christmastime is

Shopping carts bustling
People all hustling
There’s pushing and shoving
But not too much loving
Oh, such a wonderful time Christmastime is

The presents all wrapped by the tree
Everyone searching for things that say “me”
Back to the store for re-gifting gifts
Waiting for refunds, waiting in shifts
Oh, such a wonderful time Christmastime is

Now long gone and since departed
The season has left us cold and broken-hearted
Pack away the lights for next year
Cleaning the mess the relatives left here
Oh, such a wonderful time Christmastime is

Excerpted From Under the Tree
