Ladder

He leans against the wall
Towering over others
Reaching where others cannot reach

You would think he’d be respected
admired, turned to, looked upon
Instead he is neglected
locked away, pulled at, walked upon

You or me, we’d hate this
get angry and fight back
Instead he always stands upright
and never gets off track

He’ll be there when you need him
waiting for that moment when you grab him
Towering over others, he’ll hold you high
stretching, reaching toward the sky

But I warn you: hold him tightly
Be careful not to fall
He’ll stand there tall and mighty
but he won’t reach for you at all
